We will pick you up at our designated pick up point and travel towards West Cork with comfort stops en-route making our way to Kinsale – “Ireland’s Riviera”. Here you can spend some free time exploring this busy town - you can enjoy browsing in its many shops for gifts, crafts, paintings, locally designed fashions, art galleries, book shops or you can take time out in one of its many lovely café's for lunch or coffee and cakes. We will depart Kinsale in the afternoon and continue on to Macroom to our hotel for the first of 4 nights. (D,B&B)
Monday 26 August 2019
After breakfast today we will set off for a day trip to Kenmare and Killarney. Our first stop of the day will be in Kenmare where you will have a little free time to enjoy this picturesque town which is a haven of tranquility, gourmet food and breathtaking scenery. Cradled in the heart of Kenmare Bay, the picturesque town of Kenmare is the perfect location from which to discover the South West of Ireland. From here we will continue our journey to Killarney, driving through Moll’s Gap and Ladies View where you can appreciate the stunning views over the Three Lakes of Killarney. On arrival in Killarney we will go to the 15th Century Ross Castle where we will take a scenic cruise tour of Lough Leane, Killarney’s largest and most picturesque lake, with heritage attractions including O’Sullivan Cascade and the monastic ruins of Inishfallen Island. We will return to our hotel in time for dinner. (D,B&B)
Tuesday 27 August 2019
After breakfast, we will make our way to Glengarriff where we will take a boat ride to the nearby island of Ilnacullin, better known as Garnish Island. This small island is known to horticulturists around the world as an island garden of rare beauty. Because of its sheltered situation and the warming influence of the Gulf Stream the climate is in some respect almost subtropical, and is favourable to the growth of ornamental plants from many parts of the world. In the afternoon we will visit Bantry House - totally charming, privately owned and managed to this day by the Shelwell-Whites, descendants of the Earls of Bantry since the 1760’s. It was the first stately home to be opened to the public in Ireland in 1946 and has been delighting visitors ever since. We will return to the hotel in the late afternoon and you will have some time to relax and perhaps enjoy some of the leisure and spa facilities on offer there! Dinner is in the hotel. (D, B&B)
Wednesday 28 August 2019
Today we will travel to Mizen Head – Ireland’s most south-westerly point and a dramatic and breath-taking stop on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.The Visitor Centre, with café and gift shop, features displays on the Fastnet Lighthouse, the Geology of Mizen and a Navigational Simulator showing Mizen Head from the sea. Outside you will take the path to the Signal Station down the 99 steps to the Bridge. Head out to the former Keeper’s Quarters with its interpretive displays. Mizen is also a world renowned whale and dolphin watching location, where visitors can often see seals under the bridge. In the early afternoon we will make our way back to the hotel travelling via Schull and Skibbereen where, time permitting, you can stop and have a browse around before returning to the hotel with time to freshen up before dinner. (D,B&B)
Thursday 29 August 2019
After breakfast we will check out of the hotel and drive to Clonakilty, one of Ireland’s best-known tourist destinations boasting some excellent historic and heritage attractions. Here we will visit the Model Village – a wonderful trip back in time to the 1940’s where the West Cork Railway Line was at the heart of the many communities who lived and worked along the line. Afterwards you will have a little free time to wander around the town yourself and perhaps explore some of the long list of restaurants, cafes and bars, all serving the very best of what West Cork has to offer. We will depart Clonakilty and make our way back home to drop you off at your original pick-up points.
