Sunday 25 May 2025 |
We will start our pick ups in Dublin and travel south to Kilkenny City with pick ups along the route. Your first stop will be Ireland’s best preserved medieval City, Kilkenny, situated on the beautiful River Nore and famous for its narrow winding street, brightly coloured shop fronts, historic landmarks and cheerful pubs. On arrival in the City, we will visit the historic 11th Century Castle and Gardens after which you will have free time to explore the City. Take a stroll down the Medieval Mile, visit St Canice’s Cathedral or perhaps sample the Smithwick Experience. |
In the afternoon, we will depart Kilkenny and make our way to New Ross in Co Wexford and check in to our hotel for the first of 4 nights with dinner in the evening. (D,B&B)
Monday 26 May 2025 |
Today, after breakfast, we will board the coach and make our way to Johnstown Castle Estate & Museum. Johnstown Castle was the historic home of two prominent Wexford families, the Esmondes, of Norman descent but during the Cromwellian era, the estate was confiscated and changed hands before it was acquired by John Grogan in 1692. Visit the Castle with its Gothic towers, turrets and arched windows before enjoying a wander around the walled gardens with their unique sculptures. Find the Irish Agricultural Museum in the former castle farmyard, see recreated wheelwright workshops and check out the impeccably restored tractors, ploughs and threshing machines. |
In the afternoon we will visit the famous Hook Lighthouse situated on the skyscape of Wexford’s southern-most tip. It is thought to be one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world and its creation from the local limestone was an extraordinary feat of construction at the time. |
We will return to the hotel in the late afternoon with time to relax before dinner. (D,B&B)
Tuesday 27 May 2025 |
Today will be a more relaxed day, staying relatively local. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we set off to The Kennedy Homestead Visitor Centre, a short distance away. This unique exhibition recounts the fascinating story of a family’s rise from famine immigrant to President of the United States. Relive the sights and sounds of President Kennedy’s iconic return visit to Wexford in 1963, a time which Kennedy himself referred to as “the best four days of my life”. We will take a trip across the The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge, Ireland’s longest bridge stretching 887m across the River Barrow. We will return to New Ross, where you may wish to visit the full-size replica of the Dunbrody Emigrant Ship that dominates the quayside where you experience the sights, sounds and smells of a tall ship crossing the Atlantic. You will experience life on one of these notorious “Coffin Ships” both above and below deck and hear real life stories enacted by costumed actors. If you prefer, you can just stroll along the pretty quayside and browse around the town before returning to the hotel with some time to relax and perhaps enjoy the leisure facilities or the spa before dinner in the evening. Wednesday 28 May 2025 |
After breakfast today we will make the short trip to Enniscorthy, the second largest town in Co Wexford, located on the picturesque River Slaney. Here you will have some free time and you may wish to explore the 13th Century Enniscorthy Castle which has long been home to Norman knights, English Earls and local merchant families. We will also visit the award winning National 1798 Rebellion Centre, a family friendly visitor centre that tells the epic and heroic tale of the Irish Rebellion of 1798. This is an exciting, multi award-winning exhibition which explains why the events of 1798 in Ireland are forever etched in Irish history. Immerse yourself in the events of 1798 and meet key figures of the rebellion followed by a visit to Vinegar Hill. After this we will return to the hotel where you will have dinner. (D,B&B)
Thursday 29 May 2025 |
This morning after breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and make our way to Waterford City. You will have a walking tour of the Viking Triangle, taking approximately 45-50 mins. This ‘Epic Tour of the Viking Triangle’ includes access to six national monuments ranging in date from 1190 to 1783 and is a wonderful way for visitors to get an overview of Irish history, both the historic and archaeological treasures. After your walking tour you will have some free time and you may wish to visit one of the many museums or perhaps visit the showroom at Waterford Crystal which is also close by. You will have time for lunch and then we will board the coach and make our way back to Dublin, dropping you off at your original pick-up locations. | Please note terms and conditions apply. |
