Itinerary:

Sunday 20 October 2024
We will pick you up from our designated pick-up point and drive up the M1 motorway towards Belfast. Our first visit will be to Hillsborough Castle. This beautiful late Georgian mansion is a working royal palace functioning as the official residence of the Royal Family when they are in Northern Ireland, and it has been the home of the Secretary of State since the 1970s. You will have a 45-minute tour of the house and there will be free time for lunch and a browse in Hillsborough village. We will depart Hillsborough at approximately 15.00hrs and continue the short distance into Belfast City Centre where you will have a guided tour on the coach, showing you all that the City has to offer from the bustling University to the notorious political murals of East & West Belfast which depict in their own unique way the turbulent events of the so called 'Troubles'. At the end of the tour, we will drive out of the City to your hotel where you will check in and have time to freshen up before dinner. (D,B&B)

Monday 21 October 2024
After a leisurely breakfast today, we will travel the short distance to the Seamus Heaney Homeplace Visitor Centre. Seamus Heaney is undoubtedly Northern Ireland’s most literary legend. He was one of Ireland's best loved public figures and one of the world's greatest writers. The Visitor Centre includes a stunning exhibition which interprets Seamus Heaney’s work. After your visit here we will do a tour of his native South Derry, finding out more about the people, places and countryside that inspired him. You will see his birthplace at Mossbawn and retrace the footsteps of the young Seamus Heaney on his way to school in the 1940s. You will visit other places synonymous with Seamus Heaney, including the villages of Castledawson, Bellaghy and Toome. Along the way you will visit The Turf Man, a life-size representation of Heaney's most famous poem “Digging”. Before returning to the hotel, we will visit Antrim Castle where you can visit the spectacular “Clockwork Garden” created in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The garden is filled with stunning flowers and innovative features and every 15 minutes the garden will “come to life” with dancing, spinning trees and other elements will turn and move. The garden was created by celebrity garden designer, Diarmuid Gavin.
We will return to the hotel in the late afternoon. (D,B&B)

Tuesday 22 October 2024
After breakfast this morning, we will make our way to Belfast City where you will visit its most popular attractions, the infamous Victorian prison, Crumlin Road Gaol. Explore over 150 years of history with a guided tour. You can stand in the underground tunnel that connects the Gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, sit in the governor's chair, see the condemned man’s cell. The Gaol has housed murderers, suffragettes and loyalist and republican prisoners.
After the visit to the Gaol, you will be dropped in the City Centre where you can have the afternoon free to explore the City, visiting one of the many attractions, the City Hall, Titanic Belfast - or you may wish to explore the Cathedral Quarter or just browse the shops.
We will return to the hotel in the evening in time for dinner. (D,B&B)

Wednesday 23 October 2024
Today we will travel to the North Antrim Coast via the beautiful Coast Road – described as being one of Ireland’s most scenic drives and taking you through towns and villages including Glenarm, Cushendall and Cushendun. We will stop off at Glenarm Castle to visit their gardens. You can enjoy a walk through the gardens and have some refreshments in the Tea Room. Our journey will continue along the Coast Road, where you will pass by the ruins of Dunluce Castle and on to Northern Ireland’s most spectacular natural attraction, often described as the eighth wonder of the world, the Giants Causeway. Here you will enter the Visitor Centre before either walking or taking the shuttle bus, to see the impressive basalt columns formed millions of years ago by a volcanic eruption which culminated in the formations seen today. After our visit to the Causeway, we will continue a little further around the Coast Road through Portballintrae and Portstewart before taking the more direct route via the motorway back to the hotel where you will enjoy the final night’s dinner. (D,B&B)

Thursday 24 October 2024
After breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and drive to the Ards Peninsula to visit the fabulous Mount Stewart House and Gardens for a self-guided tour. The famous gardens were planted in the 1920s by Edith, Lady Londonderry and are of international importance. Lady Londonderry’s passion for bold planting schemes, coupled with the mild climate of Strangford Lough, allows rare and tender plants from across the globe to thrive in this celebrated garden. After our visit, we will board the coach and make our way along the Ards Peninsula to board the small ferry across Strangford Lough onto Downpatrick. After visiting St. Patrick’s grave at the Church of Ireland Cathedral, there will be some free time before we make our way south and back to your original pick-up points.
