ITINERARY
FRIDAY 30TH APRIL
We pick you up from your nearest departure point and drive to Galway for a three-night stay. Situated on the River Corrib, Galway is known as the City of the Tribes and has many European and Spanish influences. Settle into the hotel then enjoy dinner this evening. (Dinner, B&B)
SATURDAY 1ST MAY
After breakfast we board the coach for a drive along Galway Bay. Enjoy the breathtaking views as we head towards the Connemara National Park – there’ll be plenty of lovely photo stops en route – and beautiful Kylemore Abbey. Nestled in a rhododendron-filled hollow, this mock-Tudor building was constructed for the British shipping magnate and Irish politician, Mitchell Henry. It has been a convent of the Benedictine Dames Irlandaises since 1920 and now also houses a girls’ boarding school. We stop here for lunch in the coffee shop and a chance to look at the pottery showrooms. We then head through the boglands of Connemara – keep an eye out for wild Connemara ponies grazing on spring heather and grass – to a stop at the the hotel. There will be music in the hotel this evening. (Dinner, B&B)
SUNDAY 2ND MAY
Spend a relaxing day in Galway City. Our Driver/Guide will give you a city tour with a visit to Galway Cathedral, which was built and completed in the early 1960s. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you to explore. See the Spanish Arch and the Claddagh area where the river meets the sea, perhaps visit St Nicholas’ Church or the City Museum, and don’t forget the shopping area around Eyre Square. Dinner in the hotel tonight, with musical entertainment. (Dinner, B&B)
MONDAY 3RD MAY
We leave Galway this morning and return to original pick up points. |
