SUGGESTED ITINERARY
DAY 1
An early morning departure from school for Belfast and a guided tour of the city to see East and West Belfast, Stormont Government Buildings and City Hall. Take the afternoon ferry to Stranraer then drive to Edinburgh for a 3 night stay in a centrally located hotel.
DAY 2 & 3
A guided Edinburgh City Sightseeing Tour with a qualified local guide is included. Then choose from the following suggestions, or any ideas of your own.
Edinburgh Castle
The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th Century gun Mons Meg, the One O’Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.
Palace of Holyroodhouse
Her Majesty The Queen’s official residence in Scotland. The Royal Apartments have witnessed many important events in Scotland’s rich history. The Palace is perhaps best known as the home of Mary, Queen of Scots.
St Andrews
H home of golf and of the oldest university in Scotland.
The Falkirk Wheel
This amazing boat lift, linking the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, was built to commemorate the Millennium. Take a ride through the Wheel in one of the specially designed boats and marvel at this masterpiece of modern engineering.
Stirling Castle
The grandest of Scotland’s Castles, Stirling was the strategic military key to the kingdom during the 13th and 14th Century Wars of Independence and was the favourite royal residence of many of the Stuart Monarchs. There are excellent historical displays, a recreation of the 16th century kitchens and a vast Great Hall dating from the Middle Ages.
DAY 4
En route to the ferry make a stop at Alloway for a tour of the home and cottage of Robbie Burns, Scotland’s national poet. Depart Stranraer for the afternoon ferry to Belfast, then transfer back to school.
