SUGGESTED ITINERARY
DAY 1
Depart school by coach for the drive to Co. Clare and head to the Burren Centre in the picturesque village of Kilfenora. Here, an exhibition follows the story of the Burren from the time when the whole area lay beneath the sea - a marvellous introduction to this spectacular region, its fl ora and fauna and its megalithic tombs. Later, check into the hotel in time for dinner and a quiz night.
DAY 2
Get on the walking boots! Enjoy a full day in this geological heaven of carboniferous limestone. Visit the famous Poulnabrone Dolmen, excavated in 1968 and found to contain human remains dating from the 4th Century BC, and see the former Cistercian Abbey of Corcomroe. In the afternoon, take a walking tour across the landscape with a local expert in this fi eld. Dinner at the hotel will be followed by outdoor games.
DAY 3
A morning visit to Aillwee Cave, one of the oldest caves in Ireland. Marvel at the underground river and the stalagmites and stalactites before returning to school after a fascinating trip.
