SUGGESTED ITINERARY
DAY 1
Pick up from school and transfer to Dublin for the ferry to Holyhead, then cross the Pennines to Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam with dinner and breakfast on board.
DAY 2
After disembarking drive to The Hague, seat of the Dutch Government and home of the Queen. An orientation tour by coach will show many of the city’s beautiful and historic buildings. Continue to Madurodam, the smallest city in the Netherlands! Built on a scale of 1:25, this miniature city contains canals, gabled houses and typical Dutch scenes. This afternoon drive to Amsterdam for a canal cruise - the perfect introduction to the capital. An interesting and informative commentary will explain Amsterdam’s history and point out the major sights. Later visit Anne Frank’s House, where Anne Frank wrote her diary whilst in hiding with her family. The museum tells the history of the eight people in hiding and those who helped them during the war. Anne Frank’s Diary is among the original objects on display. Onwards to the hotel for a 2 night stay.
DAY 3
Enjoy a full day excursion into the Dutch countryside. Visit Edam, famed for its cheese, and the traditional harbour-side village of Volendam. See windmills and discover the landscape of polders and dykes with a bicycle ride - there are plenty of safe, fl at cycle routes to choose from - or perhaps a boat trip on the IJsselmeer. Also visit a traditional farm to see how cheese and the famous wooden clogs are made before returning to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 4
Time at leisure this morning or maybe return to Amsterdam for a museum visit. This afternoon travel to Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port, and enjoy a sightseeing tour with a difference. Board an ultra-modern amphibious bus to see the city from both land and the waters of the Maas River. Then visit the impressive Euromast, the highest observation tower in the Netherlands, before returning to the ferry for dinner on board and the overnight crossing to Hull.
DAY 5
Arrive Hull and travel to Holyhead for the return to Ireland and transfer to school.
