ITINERARY

TUESDAY 10TH MAY
After pick ups from local areas we drive to Dublin for the ferry to Holyhead and continue to Hull for the overnight cruise ferry to Rotterdam.  En-suite cabins and meals on board are included.  (Dinner, B&B)

WEDNESDAY 11TH MAY
We travel across the Netherlands and northern Germany to Hamburg for an overnight stay in this lively city.  An orientation drive will show you the main sights, including the famous Reeperbahn.  After dinner at the hotel the evening is at leisure.  (Dinner, B&B)

THURSDAY 12TH MAY
This morning we take the short ferry crossing from Puttgarden to Rodbyhavn then drive north through Denmark to Helsingor and catch the ferry to Helsingborg in Sweden.  En route to our hotel in Jönköping we will stop to visit a family-run Swedish dairy farm with a typical herd size of 45 Swedish Reds.  These cattle owe their origin to Ayrshires crossed with Dairy Shorthorn which were imported into Sweden in the mid 19th century.  We will arrive in Jönköping early evening for a three-night stay.
(Dinner, B&B)

WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY
We drive along the eastern shore of Lake Vattern for our first full day at the World Ploughing Championships. The venue is Lindevad’s Manor, a farm with an ancient history located in the agricultural province of Östergötland in the south of Sweden.  Two of the world’s most prominent plough producers are located in Scandinavia, Överums bruk (Sweden) and Kverneland (Norway). The focus of the event is of course the World Ploughing Competition, in two classes, switch plough and conventional plough, with one day of stubble ploughing and one day of grassland ploughing. Additionally, the Swedish National Championships in Horse Ploughing and Veteran Tractor Ploughing (with equipment from pre-1955) will be taking place.  These competitions are arranged by the Farmers Youth Association, which was formed after the second world war to provide knowledge of farming to the younger generation to prevent them from moving into the cities.  After a full day at the event we return to the hotel in time for dinner.  (Dinner, B&B)

THURSDAY 14TH MAY
Enjoy a second day at the World Ploughing Championships.  As well as the competitions, you will find a large agricultural and horticultural exhibition including machinery, products and services to do with growing and breeding; an area devoted to potatoes with everything from seed and machinery to plant protectants and advisors; an exhibition of ploughing and sowing machinery and entertainment on stage and all around the event area.  Why not join in the Farmer’s Pentathlon?  Everyone can participate and form teams to compete in the five stations located around the site.  We return to the hotel for dinner.  (Dinner, B&B)

WEDNESDAY 15TH MAY
We leave Jönköping this morning and retrace our route back through Denmark to an overnight stop in Hamburg.  (Dinner, B&B)

THURSDAY 16TH MAY
We return across Germany and the Netherlands to Rotterdam for the overnight cruise ferry to Hull with cabins and meals on board.  (Dinner, B&B)

FRIDAY 17TH MAY
After disembarking at Hull we travel across the Pennines and North Wales to Holyhead for the ferry to Dublin, with immediate transfers to your original pick up points.
