ITINERARY

WEDNESDAY 23RD JUNE
After a local pick up we drive to Belfast for the 12.15hrs ferry to Stranraer, then it’s a leisurely drive across Ayrshire and up to our hotel in Stirling, arriving in plenty of time to relax before dinner. (Dinner, B&B)

THURSDAY 24TH JUNE
Enjoy a hearty Scottish breakfast then we set off for today’s excursion to the Highlands. Heading north, the heather-clad hills of the Trossachs give way to more dramatic landscapes with wild sweeping mountains, home of deer and eagles. We pass the village of Crianlarich and continue to Oban on Scotland’s west coast, known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’. After a short stop in this bustling seaside town we continue along the coast road, past Ballachulish, to Fort William in the shadow of Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis. Time to relax and admire the stunning scenery before we continue through Glen Coe, site of the infamous 1692 massacre in which thirty-eight members of the MacDonald clan were killed by government soldiers led by the Campbells. We return to the hotel for dinner. (Dinner, B&B)

FRIDAY 25TH JUNE
Eastwards this morning to our first port of call, St Andrews, homeof golf and of Scotland’s oldest university. We continue past Dundee and through the Perthshire town of Blairgowrie, known for its soft-fruit growing, to Braemar, site of the first Highland Games. In the heart of the Cairngorms, Scotland’s highest mountain range, Braemar is the highest and most mountainous parish in the UK. Then, a lovely drive through beautiful Royal Deeside leads to the village of Crathie, close to Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s summer residence. We see world-famous Crathie Church where the Queen attends service, and enjoy the splendid views of the mountain of Lochnagar. We return to Stirling, via Perth, in time for dinner. (Dinner, B&B)

SATURDAY 26TH JUNE
We check out of the hotel this morning and go straight to the Royal Highland Show for a full day at this exciting event. The Show has a huge array of top quality livestock and horses, displays of contemporary agricultural machinery and showcases the best food and drink produced in Scotland and the UK. There are also show-jumping, displays of rural skills and crafts, competitions, programmes of music, shopping arcades, cookery theatres, forestry arena, countryside pursuits, full catering services and refreshments. After the show we drive the short distance to our hotel in Strathclyde for dinner and overnight. (Dinner, B&B)

SUNDAY 27TH JUNE
After breakfast it’s a leisurely drive back to Stranraer for the 14.45hrs ferry to Belfast. On arrival we will transfer you to your original pick up points.
